The problem discussed in this article has been solved by the pgAdmin team (tested on the pgAdmin 1.4). If you come across this problem and you have a pgAdmin version older than version 4, just download and install the latest version). Nevertheless this method can, always, be used to circumvent possible pgAdmin error by re-using the syntax recovered on the error window.<\/p>\n
Recently, the new version\u00a0 PostgreSQL 9.6\u00a0has been made available.\u00a0 Among\u00a0the\u00a0new features\u00a0,\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0PgAdmin\u00a0client\u00a0interface\u00a0is\u00a0available (\u00a0PgAdmin\u00a04 v1.1).
\nIf\u00a0you\u00a0want to migrate\u00a0databases\u00a0from a\u00a0previous\u00a0version\u00a0of PostgreSQL\u00a0to\u00a0a9.6 base,\u00a0it won’t be easy !
\nFirst let’s\u00a0set the scene: I\u00a0‘ll\u00a0only\u00a0talk about\u00a0Windows work, I\u00a0do\u00a0not\u00a0have\u00a0any\u00a0info\u00a0whether the same happens\u00a0in Linux.
\nSecond, last month, I reported the bug to the PgAdmin team, but, up to this date nothing has changed. But, since we must continue working, here is a way around the problem.
\nLet’s start\u00a0with the\u00a0problem\u00a0.
\nIf\u00a0you\u00a0Have\u00a0PostgreSQL\u00a0databases\u00a0in\u00a0earlier\u00a0versions\u00a0(9.5 and\u00a0below)\u00a0and\u00a0you\u00a0want\u00a0to\u00a0migrate them\u00a0towards\u00a0a\u00a0PostgreSQL 9.6 database<\/p>\n

In this example, we want to migrate all the tables to the postgis_22_sample database server postgreSQL 9.5 to the server’s postgis_23_sample database postgreSQL 9.6.<\/p>\n
The PgAdmin method\u00a0 consists in backing up\u00a0the first database\u00a0to\u00a0an external\u00a0 file\u00a0 (.backup),and,\u00a0 then\u00a0restore\u00a0this\u00a0file\u00a0in the\u00a0second\u00a0base.<\/p>\n
