Define<\/strong>\u00a0a base map<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Before\u00a0adding\u00a0your\u00a0own\u00a0data,\u00a0you\u00a0can\u00a0define\u00a0the\u00a0BACKGROUND<\/em>.\u00a0
A base map\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0reference\u00a0map\u00a0that\u00a0provides\u00a0a framework on\u00a0which\u00a0you\u00a0will\u00a0superimpose\u00a0your\u00a0own\u00a0data\u00a0(the\u00a0\u201coperational\u00a0layers\u201d),\u00a0the tasks\u00a0and\u00a0view\u00a0the geographic information.\u00a0These\u00a0base\u00a0maps\u00a0provide\u00a0context\u00a0to\u00a0your\u00a0work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A base map\u00a0is\u00a0constructed\u00a0from\u00a0several\u00a0layers.\u00a0 Creating\u00a0custom\u00a0maps\u00a0is\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0conceptually identical\u00a0to the\u00a0creation\u00a0of\u00a0others\u00a0maps,\u00a0except\u00a0that\u00a0you\u00a0can\u00a0define\u00a0reference\u00a0and background\u00a0layers.\u00a0Reference\u00a0layers\u00a0will\u00a0be drawn\u00a0on\u00a0top\u00a0of\u00a0your\u00a0operational\u00a0layers,\u00a0while\u00a0the background layers\u00a0will be\u00a0drawn\u00a0below\u00a0your\u00a0operational\u00a0layers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Background\u00a0maps\u00a0are, technically, relatively\u00a0static\u00a0and\u00a0are\u00a0updated\u00a0not very frequently.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Background\u00a0maps\u00a0can\u00a0contain\u00a0raster\u00a0features,\u00a0raster,\u00a0or\u00a0web layers.\u00a0When\u00a0you\u00a0create\u00a0a base map\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0project,\u00a0it\u00a0can\u00a0be\u00a0used\u00a0by\u00a0others\u00a0maps\u00a0of the\u00a0project\u00a0as\u00a0it\u00a0is added\u00a0automatically to the\u00a0Maps<\/em>\u00a0gallery<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    How to add data<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n

    In our\u00a0example, we\u00a0have\u00a0selected\u00a0among\u00a0the bottom layers of\u00a0ArcGis\u00a0Online the \u201cOceans\u00a0and\u00a0bathymetry\u201d background.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
