The ArcGIS Pro ModelBuilder is very similar to ModelBuilder in the other\nArcGIS Desktop applications. The model diagram view is similar, and you build\nthe models by adding data and geoprocessing tools by connecting them to shape\nprocesses. In ArcGIS Pro, you can view, edit, and run models that you have\nbuilt in previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these similarities, there are some differences. Knowing these\ndifferences will facilitate your migration to ModelBuilder in ArcGIS Pro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s see some important points. \n\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Versions compatibility <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, as with any application, let’s look at the compatibility\naspects among different versions. ArcGis Pro Model Builder should be considered\nas the latest version of Model Builder. Respecting an intangible rule, we will\nhave an Ascending Compatibility<\/strong>. That is, you can run existing models\nmade with Model Builder 10.3, 10.2, 10.1 … in ArcGis Pro, but you will not be\nable to run a model made or saved with ArcGis Pro in other Desktop\napplications. .<\/em> \n\nTo use an ArcGis Pro model in another\napplication, DO NOT USE THE SAVE BUTTON, or SAVE AS, IN THE RIBBON.<\/strong>\n\u00a0 In the geoprocessor window, right-click the toolbox where you want to\nsave the model, and select Save As<\/strong>, and select the version where you\nwant to have the model:\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection, movement, and the interconnection of elements is always\ndone with the same tool, unlike other Model Builder versions where there are\ntwo separate tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • To select an item, move the\ncursor over the item and click. <\/li>
  • To move an item, select it, click\nand move with the cursor. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    \n\n\n\nTo connect one element to another, the element\nmust not be selected, move the cursor over the element (the cursor takes the\nform of a hand), click the item and move to the item to connect. Release the mouse on the latter; a window appears to\ndefine the correspondence of the attached element with the various\npossibilities of the tool. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What is not present in ArcGis Pro Model Builder<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Add to map<\/strong> (Add to display) no longer exists. In order for\nthe model output to be loaded in the map window you must define the output\nlayer as the model parameter<\/strong>. In this case, it is automatically added to\nthe map. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Intermediate and Managed Data<\/strong> Options no longer exist. According\nto the mode of execution: \n-If you run the model from the model window, all intermediate layers are\npreserved, \n-If you run the model from the geoprocessor window, all intermediate data is\nautomatically erased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Lists and sets<\/strong> no longer exist. You must replace them with\niterators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If your models contain the tool \u00a0 \u201cCalculate Field<\/strong>\u201d, do not\nforget that the VB syntax no longer exists in ArcGis Pro.
