Following a previous article ( Start with Postgres \/ Postgis<\/a> ), we will discuss\nan introduction to the administration of Postgres \/ postgis<\/a> databases, the\nloading of a shapefile<\/a> and the connection and loading of the Postgis layer from\nQGis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most convenient way for administrating PostgreSQL databases is to\nuse the pgAdmin3 graphic interface. \n\nThis tool is installed automatically when\nPostgreSQL is installed. It can launched from the program bar: \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

For the purposes of this article, load a shapefile as a Postgis layer in\nyour new database, you do not actually have to perform any special administration\ntask. But it’s easier to understand how it works by following the base modifications.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But rest assured, for the time being you have nothing to create. When\ninstalling Postgis, we requested the creation of a model database. It is this model\nthat we will use for the rest of the article. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

pgAdmin III allows you to administer a PostgreSQL \/ PostGIS  database without worrying about the\ncorresponding SQL syntax . \n\nWhen you launch the application, the first\nscreen allows you to connect to server to the desired database. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
