You could be\nsurprised\nbut,\nactually, there are two ways to cut rasters in ArcMap.\nThe\nclassical technique is the\n\u201craster clip\u201d (\u201craster\ncutting\u201d) tool in ArcToolbox.\nThis has been the only procedure for a long time.
\nBut\nsince version 10, you have at your disposal the \u201cImage\nAnalysis\u201d tool in the standard toolbar. This tool\ncontains\nalso\na way to cut out rasters and pictures.
\nThe\nmain advantage of the images analysis toolbar is that you can\nsee\nthe final result before exporting it! \n\nWe will discuss both methods,\nby cutting a part\nof the orthophoto coastline of the IGN with the\nmunicipalities\u2019 boundaries of Pont-Aven. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First<\/strong> method<\/strong>: ArcToolbox:<\/strong> clip Raster tool<\/strong><\/em>\n\n\nIn ArcToolbox (Data\nManagement> Raster> Raster Processing> Clip), double-click the clip\ntool. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Fill in the fields: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Input<\/em> raster<\/em> (<\/em>required) this\nis the raster from which you want\nto extract a part.\nWe want to\ncut the raster   \u201c2011-1820-6787-OL-RGB-L93.jp2\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Output<\/em> range<\/em> (optional)<\/em> it’s\nthe boundary of the polygon that you want to extract.\nYou can select specific\nrecords in the polygon dataset and the cutting\nwill be done according to this\nboundary.\nIn our case we have selected\nthe polygon corresponding to the\nmunicipality of Pont-Aven. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check the box \u201cuse the\nentities as input for cutting\u201d. This\noption indicates ArcMap to use the selected records in\nthe polygons layer. If you do not check the box, all\nthe present polygons are used\nas\ncutting\nboundaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raster Dataset output<\/em> this\nis the name of the output (cut raster). Adds\nan\nextension for the output (.tif, .img, .jpg, etc.) since it is the\nextension entered here determines the output raster format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NoData<\/em> value<\/em> (optional)<\/em> All\npixels that are outside the cutting boundary will default a\nNoData\nvalue. When you load\nthe raster, these pixels will not appear. You can give\nanother value to make a change. \n\nRun the tool by\nclicking\nOK. The output raster will be cut according\nto the Pont-Aven polygon\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second<\/strong>\nmethod<\/strong>: Raster Clip (<\/strong>Image Analysis<\/strong>\nToolbar<\/strong>)\n\n\nYou have to start by activating\nthe images analysis toolbar (Window -> Image Analysis). The\nwindow analysis image will be displayed\nin\nArcMap. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis opens the Image Analysis\nwindow. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn\nthe image analysis toolbar, select the raster that you want to extract.\nMake sure the box is checked and that the layer\nname is highlighted. If you do not, the clip\nbutton will be greyed out.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Clip button is the first button in the \u00ab\u00a0Processing\u00a0\u00bb\nsection. \n\nAs soon as you press the button, a new (virtual)\nlayer is added to the legend bar with the result of the cutting.
\nIf\nyou disable the whole raster in\nthe caption bar, you can see\nthe result of the order. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All you have to do now is\nto save this cut raster: right click\non the new virtual layer -> Data -> export data:\nChoose the location and name of the file you want\nto save. You can also\nchange the size of cells and the raster format output. Click\nSave. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This second method\ncan\nalso\nbe used without creating a definitive raster. You\ncan,\nsimply, use it to reduce the size of the displayed rasters and\nspeed up your work.
\nOnce\nthe virtual layer is created, you\ncan\ndelete\nthe original raster legend window, and work on the subset instead of the\noriginal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
