The method is the same for other types of spatial\ndata (kml, gml, &#8230;). We will now discuss how to import non-spatialized data\n(Excel, txt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigterritoires.fr\/index.php\/en\/import-csv-qgis\/\">csv<\/a>, &#8230;) and especially those containing location attributes (XY,\nLat \/ Lon, &#8230;) while creating their geometries. We will also discuss how to\nexport SpatiaLite tables as shapefiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to import tables into SpatiaLite<\/strong> \n\nTo import a table file into a SpatiaLite\ndatabase, follow these steps: <br>\n1. Open the Database <strong><em>Manager<\/em><\/strong> by clicking Database <strong><em>Manager<\/em><\/strong>\nunder the menu &nbsp; <strong><em>Database<\/em><\/strong> s. Expand <strong><em>SpatiaLite<\/em><\/strong>\nand select the database where you want to import your tabular data into the\ntree (here <em>BaseTest<\/em> ) <br>\n2. Click the <strong><em>Table<\/em><\/strong> menu  <strong><em>|<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Import\na file or layer<\/em><\/strong> to open the <strong><em>Import Vector Layer<\/em><\/strong> dialog\nbox . <br>\n3. Click on the [&#8230;] button displayed to the right of the <strong><em>Entry<\/em><\/strong>\ndrop-down list  and select the Excel file (here hotels.xls)\nto load into the database. <br>\n4. Click the <strong><em>Update Options<\/em><\/strong> button to load the rest of the dialog\nbox. <br>\nThe output table name will be filled with the name &nbsp; of the input file. We will add the spatial component to\nthe table in a later step. <br>\n5. click the <strong><em>OK<\/em><\/strong> button to import the file. <br>\n6. after a while you will be notified that the import is complete. \n\nTo display the new table, you will need to\nrefresh the tree by selecting <strong><em>BaseTest.sqlite<\/em><\/strong> in the tree view\nand clicking <strong><em>Refresh.<\/em><\/strong> under &nbsp; <strong><em>Database<\/em><\/strong> or\npress the <strong><em>F5<\/em><\/strong> key on your keyboard. These\nfields contain the hotels coordinates (EPSG 4326). Click on the tab &nbsp; <strong><em>Table<\/em><\/strong>\non the information panel to display the table entries. Note that the <strong><em>Preview<\/em><\/strong>\ntab is not available because the selected table has no geometry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><div class='stb-container class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful about the type of data assigned to your coordinate fields\n(here Google_Longitude and Google_Latitude). According to an algorithm that has\nalways escaped me, switching from Excel cell format to data type to database\nhas some odd results. You may end up with text-type coordinate fields. In this\ncase, there will be no errors displayed thereafter, except that your geometry\nwill be zero and you will have no point in the display. It is therefore at this\nstage that we must correct the shot, after it will be too late and it will\nstart all over again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your X and Y fields are in text, open &nbsp; a SQL window in the\ndatabase manager (second button of four) then enter one by one the following\nSQL queries to create a new numeric field and fill it with the contents of the\ntext field: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ALTER TABLE your <em>table<\/em> ADD Xm double precision <br>\nUPDATE <em>your_table<\/em> SET Xm = X <br>\nALTER TABLE your <em>table<\/em> ADD Ym double precision <br>\nUPDATE <em>your_table<\/em> SET Ym = Y <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">where X and Y are your text fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\/ stextbox] <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, the import of the table is complete. However, since the\ncoordinates are present in the table, you can create a point geometry column\nand add it to the table.
