In this article we will discuss\nhow to create a layer\nof points with ArcMap containing positions and links to \u00a0\u00bb geotagged \u00a0\u00bb\nphotos . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geotagging is to specify the geographic<\/strong> coordinates<\/strong> photos\nby\nchanging\ntheir\ndata\n(or tags<\/em>) EXIF<\/strong> . EXIF\n(Exchangeable Image file format) of a photo includes information\nsuch as the camera type, date and time of shooting etc …\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

If you have a camera for shooting\nequipped\nwith a GPS, the location data can be\nincluded\nautomatically\n. For example , if you have\nan iPhone you can enable\ngeotagging pictures (see how to enable this page\n: How\nto turn photo geotagging on your iPhone or iPad).<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t, you can use software\nsuch\nas Locr GPS Photo (free) or RoboGeo (fee) to include a\nlocation in your images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suppose you use an\niPhone or equivalent . The images\nintegration\nprocedure in ArcMap is extremely simple.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1- copy your images in a directory .\nUsing Windows Photo Viewer , for example , make sure\nthat\nthe photos are oriented correctly\n. Since you are going to link\nthe images to the created layer, the images will be viewed\ndirectly\nwith ArcMap. Therefore, it is essential that\nthey are stored at the right place .\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2-Open ArcMap and the Toolbox window. Launch\nthe\ntool GeoTagged<\/em><\/strong> photos\nto points<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is possible to create an\noutput layer in shapefile<\/a>, but\nin\nthis\ncase\nyou\nlose\nthe link to the images. You will only\nhave the position of these. Therefore, opt by a\nstorage\nsubclass as an entity of a file geodatabase .\n\n\n4-\nRun the\ntool . The result appears in the cartographic window\n.\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can change the images points symbology\nto indicate the position of the photo.\nIn effect , if we display the\nattribute table of the new layer created one observes a field\nDirection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To position the symbol according\nto the direction of each image: open the properties layer -> tab\nsymbology\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
